How to Prevent Soap Scum

If you read our post about how to clean soap scum, you're probably excited to read this post about how to Prevent it! Now that your shower and tub is clean from soap scum, it’s all about maintenance! You want to keep on top of that grime so you don’t find yourself in deep cleaning hell.

We find that using an after shower spray is the best way to prevent soap scum from glueing itself to your glass shower. Here are few DIY recipes we love...

RECIPE #1 (in spray bottle)
-1/2 cup vodka
-1 cup of water
-10 drops of peppermint tea tree oil (optional)

RECIPE #2 (in spray bottle)
-1.5 cups of water
-1 cup of vinegar
-1/2 cup rubbing alcohol
-10 drops of tea tree oil and/or peppermint oil (optional)

RECIPE #3
Mint Cleaning WINDOW CLEANER! (Our fav recipe;))

After your shower, just spray the shower down after every use. No need to wipe clean! Just spray it and forget it! Easy peasy!

If you’re feeling extra snazzy using a squeegee after every shower will totally help prevent the scum as well, however if you’re anything like me- I got no time for that! So let’s aim for a once a week squeeege. Ok?

Side note: You might want to switch to a natural, vegetable-based soap in the shower going forward. A natural soap, like castile soap will rinse clean and not leave the soap scummy build-up that a petroleum or animal-fat based soap will leave.

Do you use an after shower spray after every shower?
